Kennedy wrestlers have strong showing in Colorado

Seventeen members of the Cedar Rapids Kennedy wrestling team participated in the Team Excel Team Camp last week in Estes Park, Colo. The Cougars experienced a Rocky Mountain High, performing well at the team dual camp.

The Cougars, led by head coach Brent Paulson, went 9-2 in dual meet action against teams from across the country, going 7-0 and inning its eight-team pool. Kennedy’s group placed fourth overall. Among the notable wins, the Cougars knocked off Wiggins, Colo., the defending state champions in Colorado’s small-school class. Continue reading

Morningstar, Burroughs highlight Buena Vista camp

Buena Vista head wrestling coach Sevond Cole has announced that University of Iowa All-American and Nebraska two-time All-American Jordon Burroughs will be the guest clinicians at the program’s wrestling camp July 23-26.

CEDAR RAPIDS — Each Thursday night the water at Ellis Park is transformed into one giant stage, and the show is unlike any other.

Spectators fill the metal bleachers and line the shore to see an elaborate display of graceful acts, impressive stunts and colorful costumes.

The Five Seasons Ski Team has produced these shows for 31 years, and continue to entertain the crowds.

This week the club has an expanded schedule with shows Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. All shows begin at 7 p.m. Continue reading

Team Iowa had a strong showing this week at the USA Wrestling Junior National Duals this week at Oklahoma City. Team Iowa earned a fifth-place finish in freestyle, following its seventh-place finish in Greco-Roman. Continue reading

Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame Day at Ellis Park

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame is returning to Ellis Park.

At least for the time being.

The CRSHOF will again hold its annual Hall of Fame Day with an induction ceremony and 16-inch slow pitch games throughout Sunday at the Ellis Park softball fields.

Games begin at 8:30 a.m. and will continue until noon, when the 2008 and 2009 classes will be inducted into the hall of fame. More games are scheduled in the after noon, beginning at 12:45 p.m. and concluding about 4 p.m. The event is set for Diamond 2. Continue reading

Team Iowa went 0-3 in the championship bracket pool and will face Kansas for seventh place at the Greco-Roman Junior National Duals at Oklahoma City. Iowa lost to Florida (47-18), Minnesota #1 (41-20) and Arizona (43-21) before the placing match.
