16-inch slow pitch softball begins soon

ASA 16-inch men’s slow pitch softball competition will begin within the next month. Preseason tournaments and leagues are being planned.

A meeting for Cedar Rapids leagues is set April 23rd. I believe Chris Clime and Mike O’Neil are running the 16-inch Classic league, planning on starting May 14. The league is weekly on Thursdays at Ellis Park in Southwest Cedar Rapids.

You can contact O’Neil by email at steph07251990@yahoo.com or Clime via email at  c.clime@cedar-rapids.org

An early bird tournament run by Jared Collum (In the name of full disclosure, he is the manager of the team I am playing with this summer). The tournament is scheduled for May 7 and 9. Collum said nine teams have committed. The format will likely be pool play followed by a single elimination bracket held at Ellis Park. The plan is for two pool games to be played on Thursday, May 7, with an additional pool game and the seeded single-elimination competition set for Saturday, May 9. If interested in playing, contact Collum via email at Collum94@hotmail.com

The field currently consists of Gilligans, CJ’s Sports Bar, Tailgators, Stadium Lounge, Star Bar, Hupp, Arsenal, Emil’s and JV Truckshine.

  1. I forgot to tell KJ, but there is a very small entry fee for the Early Bird ($10 each team, for trophies) and each team will have to pay umpires ($10) per game. Pretty cheap for 4 guaranteed games of softball. The tourney is currently made up of 16″ teams from Thursday league, but is open to any teams interested…might be a good and cheap way for some of the 12″ and 14″ teams to try 16″ softball.

Deadline for entry is April 23.

    Hope to hear from you.

    Jared Collum
